Big City Blocks or Lines?

Hey there. This here's another layout/setup for the Birds promo, the Big City Harbour. It's not totally finished yet, but I wanted to get all of you talented bloggers to weigh in on the city before I go further. My gut tells me to go with the block skyline (bottom) because of the higher contrast and the fact that the characters will show up better against it when animated, BUUUUT I really like the look of the transparent skyline too, and it is more 'on style' with the show. What do you folks think? Let me have it!

UPDATE: Thanks for the feedback! Here's the final BG:

Wow, this is a toughy...
they both look pretty good...
I like how the
block skyline seems to frame the characters nicely, drawing a tad bit more attention to them. To me, the white of the block skyline also brightens up the shot in a nice way. Adds a bit of a feel to the atmosphere IMHO.
I guess another question would be just how much do you use the "line art" BG look throughout the show. Either way it probably wont make to much a difference on the eyes....
With that being said, I like the one on the left too... hehehe
Good luck!
You cant go wrong...

This doesn't help your problem at all but I like them both! I think the different styles change the atmosphere of the shot and it would be cool to see both in the show for different locations.
I take it back, problem solved! ;)

i agree it is a tough one. i like the one on the left as far as style goes.. it is nice because it doesnt have much detail and hides in the back ground. on the other hand it might be distracting for composition, and to many lines around the character is not the best way to have a clear silouete. maybe try to make the dock postes a little higher and not have them in the horrizon so much that might help. over all i think its awesome. and forgive my spelling.. i am still in grade 4.

wow this is an amazing background! I love the look of those lines for the buildings. I'd go with that one all the way! When do you think your promo will be finished?

I'd go with the transparent one, but what do I know...

Damn dude, they're both really cool but I think maybe you're right with the higher contrast of the block skyline!

i'd go blocks. the line version probably wont show up on the tv, or worse if you're showing somebody a quicktime of the promo on a shitty laptop...they wont for sure. I'd test it on the tube, and mess with the line weight before you make your final call. Then...i'd go make a sandwhich. Eat it. Then make your final call.
